Yotel - Edinburgh, Scotland
A sensory journey through the stages of sleep.
YOTEL Edinburgh translates the stages of sleep into a spatial journey, guiding guests from wakefulness to the dreamlike depth of REM sleep.
The experience begins in the reception, where bold contrasts and digital mapping create a heightened sense of alertness. Light, reflection and movement introduce an energetic atmosphere that reflects the first stage of the journey: the fully awake state.
As guests move deeper into the hotel, the bar transitions into a more immersive environment. Interactive lighting and digital projections respond to movement, blurring the boundary between physical space and digital illusion, echoing the shifting and surreal qualities of dreaming.
Further into the hotel, the restaurant represents the REM stage of sleep, the deepest phase where dreams unfold and reality begins to dissolve. Structural columns gradually transform into suspended art, breaking apart into particles that appear to float through the space. Architecture shifts from solid to ephemeral, creating a dreamlike environment where structure, light and reflection merge into a single atmospheric experience.
Through lighting, digital media and spatial sequencing, the project translates the journey from wakefulness to deep rest into a layered architectural narrative.
